Meet Your shaper: Gary Van Wieringen
Gary Van Wieringen brings over two decades of surfboard shaping expertise, paired with a lifetime of competitive surfing excellence. His unique ability to blend hands-on craftsmanship with the insight gained from riding waves at the highest level sets him apart in the world of surfboard design. Every board he shapes is the result of meticulous design and real-world testing, ensuring superior performance and a connection to the ocean that only a surfer of Gary’s caliber can deliver.
Gary Van Wieringen’s surfing journey began at 10, progressing from bodyboarding to competitive surfing, where he quickly excelled. Representing Southern Natal at the 1987 South African Championships launched a decorated career with titles at club, provincial, and national levels. Notable achievements include his first major win in the O30 Senior Men’s Division (2008), Open Men’s PST title (2010), and second place at the ISA World Master’s Championships in El Salvador. With international representation, multiple age-division titles, and a 2024 ISA World Master’s tour spot, Gary’s legacy as one of South Africa’s premier surfers is firmly established.
